Kroo Bay is an informal settlement in central Freetown, home to more than 10,000 people and hit by recurring floods. The event’s theme, Margins, argued that new ideas often start in places like it. It was only the third TEDx event held in Sierra Leone, at the Miatta Civic Centre on 28 February 2026.
TED’s rules fix the logo and the red. I used the X itself as the device: a large cut that frames black-and-white photographs of Kroo Bay, with speakers set inside it in colour. The system covered speaker profiles, a countdown, an About Kroo Bay series, FAQs, invitations, speaker stands, stage sides, the entrance, lanyards, tote bags and T-shirts.
